Brief history of the project

Inspired by the warm, grounded spirit of Mardin, this restaurant project in Istanbul’s Bahçeşehir district brings together compressed earth, wood, and natural light to create a calm and immersive dining atmosphere.
The design balances semi-open and enclosed spaces, allowing nature, materiality, and craft to shape the experience. Local materials, layered lighting, and exposed preparation areas invite guests to connect with the space through both architecture and process, offering a serene yet vibrant setting rooted in authenticity.
A clear structural expression, defined by a timber grid roof and integrated roof lights, extends seamlessly from interior to exterior, reinforcing spatial continuity and daylight penetration throughout the project. The boundary between inside and outside is further softened through sliding timber-framed glass panels, allowing the sense of being outdoors to extend into the interior. This continuity is reinforced by a sculptural olive tree positioned at the heart of the space, acting as a spatial and atmospheric anchor.
Even within enclosed areas, the project maintains a strong connection to the landscape, taking advantage of Istanbul’s favorable climate to offer layered spatial experiences from breakfast and brunch to evening dining, both by day and by night.
